Pipe Repair & Replacement across Banbury

Damaged, corroded or frozen pipes cause leaks and lost pressure. They can also lead to costly water damage. Copper, plastic, lead and galvanised steel pipes can all fail.

Common faults include pinhole leaks, leaking joints and burst pipes after frost. Building work can also damage a pipe. For a small fault, the engineer cuts out the damaged section and fits new pipe.

Where corrosion is widespread, a longer run or a full repipe may make sense. Frozen pipes need careful thawing and a check for damage. The engineer tests the repair under full pressure before leaving.

Signs you need pipe repair & replacement help

These are common signs that you need pipe repair & replacement. If you spot one, act early, because small faults often grow.

  • ✓ Visible corrosion, green patina, or white mineral deposits on exposed copper pipes
  • ✓ A persistent drip or weep from a pipe joint, fitting, or section of pipework
  • ✓ Discoloured or metallic-tasting water, which may indicate corroded or lead pipework
  • ✓ A section of pipe has frozen and no water is flowing to one or more fixtures
  • ✓ Water pressure has dropped noticeably, suggesting a leak or partially blocked pipe

Our process

These steps show a typical visit. However, the exact method depends on what the engineer finds on site.

  1. 1.
    Inspection
We examine the damaged or suspect pipework, identify the material, age, and condition of the pipes, and determine whether a localised repair or a longer section replacement is the most appropriate solution.
  2. 2.
    Isolation
The water supply to the affected section is isolated using the nearest service valve or stopcock. If no isolation valve exists, we fit one as part of the repair to make future maintenance easier.
  3. 3.
    Repair or Replace
For localised damage, the affected section is cut out and replaced with new pipe and fittings. For widespread corrosion, we replace the full run of pipework. Lead pipes are replaced with copper or approved plastic alternatives.
  4. 4.
    Test and Commission
The water supply is restored and the repaired or replaced section is tested under full mains pressure. We check every joint and connection for leaks and confirm water flows correctly to all affected fixtures.

Pricing guide

The price depends on whether the damage is local or needs a longer section replaced. Replacing a lead pipe is a bigger job than fixing a single fitting. Send a request online and we pass it to a local engineer, who confirms the price before starting.

Pipe Repair & Replacement — frequently asked questions

Should I replace my lead pipes?

Lead pipes in older homes are best replaced with copper or approved plastic. Lead can get into drinking water, particularly in soft water areas. Ask Thames Water what it will replace outside your boundary, and the engineer can deal with the pipe inside.

How do I prevent pipes from freezing in winter?

Insulate pipes in lofts, garages and outside walls with foam lagging. In a long cold spell, keep the heating on low, even when you are away. Extra protection may help for pipes in very exposed spots.

Can you repair a leaking pipe joint without replacing the whole pipe?

Often, yes. If the pipe is sound and the leak is at a joint, the engineer can remake the joint. However, corrosion inside the pipe means you should replace the section.
